What is Sustainable Design
Sustainable (Green) design is the art of reducing negative impacts on the environment, and the health and comfort of building occupants, thereby improving building performance. The basic objectives of sustainability are to reduce consumption of non-renewable resources, minimize waste, and create healthy, productive environments.
Applicability to Your Profession
Sustainable design is a growing trend within the fields of architecture, engineering, urban planning and design, industrial design, interior design and graphic design. Design professionals who are working with clients using long-term life-cycle criteria for making building product and system selection decisions will need to understand sustainable design principles.
