Mechanical Engineering Principles and Practice - Part 1 of 2
Course Highlights

This online engineering CPD live webinar presents basic principles of mechanical engineering in a simple, easy to understand format covering various topics. This webinar is Part 1 of a 2-Part series.

This course will enable attendees to accomplish straightforward and common calculations associated mechanical engineering concepts such as statics, kinetics, kinematics, mechanical advantage, engineering materials, mechanics of materials, fluid mechanics, hydraulic machines, thermodynamics, refrigeration cycle, financial evaluation and decision making associated with typical engineering projects.

Core mechanical engineering topics like static and dynamic equilibrium, mechanical strengths of engineering material, engineering material defects, common alloys, thermodynamics, psychrometry, principles of mechanical advantage in mechanical and hydraulic machines, hydrostatics, hydrodynamics are explained and illustrated through simple examples.  Mechanical engineering concepts are also illustrated by practical numerical problems and case studies.

Part 1 covers:

  1. System of Units
  2. Tools Commonly Employed by Mechanical Engineers & Technicians
  3. Materials and Mechanics of Materials
  4. Statics
  5. Dynamics – Kinematics
  6. Dynamics – Kinetics

This 4 CPD online live webinar is intended for engineers, energy professionals, engineering managers, and anyone who would like to become more familiar with power transmission and distribution.

Learning Objectives

This continuing education live webinar is designed to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:

  • Learning about the principles and concepts associated with mechanical energy, work, torque, power, mechanical advantage.
  • Familiarizing with methods and strategies utilized by mechanical engineers for analyzing forces and moments in beams and truss systems.
  • Understanding how to perform stress, strain, toughness and ductility analyses on engineering materials.
  • Familiarizing with basics of dynamics; kinematics and kinetics, in linear and angular motion domains
  • Learning about strengths, thermal and alloying characteristics of engineering materials.
  • Applying hydrostatics and hydrodynamics principles, laws and equations for analyses of fluid systems.
  • Understanding mechanical and hydraulic advantage.
  • Learning about the four stages/phases of refrigeration cycle, illustrated and supported by DuPont R-134a refrigerant pressure-enthalpy case study.
  • Familiarizing with the basic instruments utilized by mechanical engineers.
