Introduction to Corrosion
This online engineering PDH interactive presentation provides a brief outline on the chemical interaction taking place during the corrosion process between the environment and the corroding metal. It also describes preventive measures to minimize or control the corrosion process.
Uncontrolled corrosion can cause many serious problems. Corrosion occurs continuously, and every metal in every facility is subject to some type of corrosion. Even though corrosion cannot be eliminated, it can be controlled.
Mitigating corrosion is important from both an operational and cost standpoint. Ignoring corrosion can shorten structure life, increase equipment or system out-of-service time, and increase maintenance. This presentation provides field personnel the principles they need for a clearer understanding of basic corrosion processes and methods to deal with them. It further describes some simple situations in which they might design and install a cathodic protection system using site forces. The presentation also describes general cathodic protection monitoring procedures.
This 4 PDH online interactive presentation is applicable to chemical and environmental engineers, design and construction personnel, technical staff and facility operators who are interested in gaining a better understanding of the theory of corrosion.
This continuing education interactive presentation is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Familiarizing with the theory of corrosion
- Understanding basic corrosion processes and methods to deal with them
- Understanding the difference between general corrosion, crud and galvanic corrosion, and specialized corrosion
- Describing simple situations where a cathodic protection system design and installation is necessary using site forces
