Reactor Nuclear Parameters
This online engineering PDH course presents specific parameters of a nuclear reactor including the neutron life cycle, reactivity and reactivity coefficients, neutron poisons, and control rods:
- Neutron Life Cycle is the series of steps that fission neutrons go through as they slow to thermal energies and are absorbed in the reactor.
- Reactivity is a measure of the departure of a reactor from criticality. Reactivity coefficients are useful in quantifying the reactivity change that will occur due to the change in a physical property such as the temperature of the moderator or fuel.
- Neutron Poisons are absorbing materials intentionally designed into the reactor for specific purposes including remove neutrons from the reactor.
- Control Rods are made of neutron absorbing materials and used to adjust the reactivity of the core.
