An Introduction to Electrical Safety: Underground and Low Voltage Interior
This online engineering PDH course provides electrical safety guidance when working with underground electrical systems and low voltage interior systems. It applies to underground work in manholes, vaults, and handholes; work on duct lines, trenches, and underground cables; and work on ground-mounted and underground equipment associated with underground electrical lines. It also discusses electrical safety for low voltage interior systems, circuits and equipment.
Electricity has been long recognized as a serious workplace hazard, exposing employees to electric shock, electrocution, burns, fires and explosions. Work in the vicinity of overhead, underground or low-voltage electric lines is where there is a reasonable possibility a person either directly or through a conducting medium will come within an unsafe distance to energized electric lines. As such, electrical hazards present serious hazards to all workers involved.
This 2 PDH online course is intended for electrical engineers and electrical maintenance technicians interested in safe working conditions when working with underground electrical systems and equipment, and low voltage interior electrical systems.
This P.Eng. continuing education course is intended to provide you with the following specific knowledge and skills:
- Understanding the general requirements for safety of workers and the public
- Learning about worker safety in and around trenches
- Learning about the safe cable pulling practices
- Knowing how to safely work around buried electrical cables
- Learning about the recommended precautions to take before entering underground structures
- Learning how to test for a safe atmosphere in underground structures
- Learning about stray electrical voltage testing
In this professional engineering CEU course, you need to review the document titled, "An Introduction to Electrical Safety: Underground and Low Voltage Interior".
Once you complete your course review, you need to take a multiple-choice quiz consisting of fifteen (15) questions to earn 2 PDH credits. The quiz will be based on the entire document.
Upon successful completion of the quiz, print your Certificate of Completion instantly. (Note: if you are paying by check or money order, you will be able to print it after we receive your payment.)
