Introduction to Emergency Management
This online engineering PDH course provides an introduction to emergency management and demonstrates the involvement of engineers in its phases.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency ‘FEMA’ has developed courses in emergency management which deals with minimizing risks and avoiding risks as well as responding to disasters. Engineers are experienced in risk management, the use of codes and standards, and the reduction of risks. This makes them well suited for positions in emergency management, whether at the plant level or at the governmental level. Engineers are an essential part of the mitigation and recovery phases of the emergency management cycle.
The Incident Command System is a part of the National Incident Management that describes the principals and concepts of emergency management. It is a standardized approach to managing an incident or event which enables a coordinated response between various jurisdictions and agencies.
